How This Fire Department Quadrupled Its Reach
When a Storm Exposed a Visibility Gap
In 2023, Tropical Storm Hilary hit Mount Charleston hard. With more than 7 inches of rainfall, flooding left residents with damaged roads and trails, power outages, and broken water lines.
A community was cut off.
When news crews arrived to cover the aftermath, many reporters assumed the firefighters working alongside the Forest Service were volunteers.
That couldn’t be further from the truth. Mount Charleston Fire and Rescue (MCFR) has been a professional, fully paid department since 2015. The community just didn’t know about it.
Why That Gap Mattered
MCFR’s website was outdated, and the people who lived on the mountain didn’t have a clear picture of who their first responders were or what they actually did.
In ordinary times, that’s a missed opportunity. In the middle of a crisis, it has real consequences. People need to know who is coming to help, and they need to trust them before the emergency happens, not during it.
This is something we see often with mission-driven organizations. They do serious, important work, and they assume the people they serve already know about it. Usually, they don’t.
How MCFR and Reveal Video Closed the Gap
In 2024, MCFR partnered with Reveal Video to change how the department shows up in its community and to tell its story as the professional organization it is.
We didn’t start with a single video. We started with the basics a community looks to when it wants to know who you are:
A new website that clearly explains who MCFR is and what they do
A monthly newsletter to keep residents in the loop
Fresh content that reflected what was actually happening on the mountain, and why it mattered
Building Consistency on Instagram
On Instagram, we helped MCFR grow from 300 followers in 2024 to 1,400 in 2026. That’s more than a fourfold increase, driven by better photos, better videos, and a real game plan.
The numbers matter less than what they represent. Consistent, quality content gave the community a regular, visible reminder of the people protecting them.
What Changed Beyond the Mountain
The response didn’t stay on the mountain. Once MCFR’s story was being told, new opportunities followed:
City of Las Vegas officials and neighboring fire departments took notice
Local businesses began supporting the department
MCFR started training other organizations
The department built a partnership with a local high school fire safety program
None of this required MCFR to do anything differently on the job. The department was already doing the work. What changed was that people could finally see it.
The Videos Were the Tool
The videos were the tool. The result was a department the community finally knew.
That’s how we think about every project at Reveal Video. The goal isn’t content for content’s sake. It’s giving hard-working people the public voice they’ve earned.
Does Your Community Know Who You Are?
If you lead a mission-driven organization, the question worth asking is this: Do the people you serve actually know who you are and what you do?
If not, that’s the gap to close.
Book a call, and we’ll show you where your gap is.
